Cha Cha Baby Tops July Digital Sale

The July Digital Sale on Fasig-Tipton Digital closed late Tuesday afternoon with gross sales of $2,984,500 for 101 horses sold.

Cha Cha Baby (hip 27), a 9-length maiden special weight winner at Delaware Park on July 21, sold for $460,000 to LC Racing LLC to top the sale. Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent, consigned. Cha Cha Baby is a two-year-old filly from the first crop of Highly Motivated.

“I’ve started using digital sales more and more, but mainly for mares to this point,” said Mark Reid, who purchased Cha Cha Baby as agent for Glenn Bennett’s LC Racing. “This is the first time I’ve used it for an actual racehorse, and with the horse stabled in my area [at Delaware Park] it was easy to go see her. All the information I needed, including Ragozin numbers, was all right there in front of me. The platform is very easy to use and everything worked out great. I bought her for Glenn Bennett, from the Philadelphia area, who is looking to increase his profile in racing and hopefully this filly will take him there.”

“Cha Cha Baby delivered a very impressive result for a very impressive racehorse, highlighting another successful Digital sale,” said Leif Aaron, Fasig-Tipton Director of Digital Sales. “Overall trade was solid from start to finish, with strong activity surrounding the auction. We welcomed more than 1,000 registered bidders, saw heavy veterinary activity in the repository, and had participation from buyers around the world. Racehorses continued to drive the market, accounting for nearly two-thirds of the sale's gross while posting an outstanding 91% clearance rate—further evidence of the continued demand for horses ready to compete.”

Other top hips included:

• Life and Times (hip 12), sold for $200,000 to Michael Dubb and Douglas Nachman from the consignment of ELiTE, agent. A five-year-old son of Justify, Life and Times is a multiple winner and multiple graded stakes placed, and has won or placed in all his career starts to date.
• Alghero (hip 26), sold for $160,000 to Sondereker Racing LLC from the consignment of Gainesway, agent. A three-year-old colt by Quality Road, Alghero was a fast-closing second in a Saratoga maiden on July 16 in his first try over turf.
• Mambo Queen (hip 13), sold for $100,000 to PARA2022 from the consignment of Evergreen Equine, agent. The four-year-old daughter of Mendelssohn came into the sale off a 3 ½ length score in allowance company on June 26.

“Around the office we've been joking that ‘Winter is Coming,’” added Aaron. “But there's some truth behind the saying. Now is the time to start planning for our fall and winter Digital breeding stock sales.
