Midlantic Fall Yearlings Sale Posts Across the Board Gains
Held over two days for the first time since 2011, the Midlantic Fall Yearlings Sale, bolstered by increased entries and success of recent graduates, posted across the board gains upon conclusion Tuesday evening.
Cairo Prince, whose first crop of yearlings sold exceptionally well over the summer selected sales, topped the Midlantic Fall Yearlings Sale with Hip 294, a colt which sold for $300,000 to Eisaman Equine from the consignment of Becky Davis, agent. Out of the Curlin mare Current Event, Hip 294 is a half-brother to three-year-old winner Untaken, and is from the immediate family of Grade 1 winners Stephen Got Even and Artemis Agrotera.
The sale’s top filly was Hip 119, a Maryland-bred daughter of Lookin At Lucky which sold for $175,000 to Springhouse Farm from the consignment of Candyland, agent. The filly is a half-sister to stakes winners Steady Warrior and Steady N Love.
Overall, 312 yearlings sold for $7,855,100, an increase of 22% over 2016, when 323 yearlings changed hands for $6,436,600. The average was $25,177, up 4.8% from $24,017 last year, and the median was $14,000, a 40% increase over $10,000. The average and median were second highest in this sale’s history.
