Corniche Filly Tops California Fall Yearlings Sale

The 2025 Fasig-Tipton California Fall Yearlings sale was conducted Tuesday at Fairplex in Pomona, California. The single-session sale grossed $4,552,400 for 137 yearlings sold, with an average of $33,229. Eleven (11) yearlings sold for $100,000 or more.
A filly from the first crop of Corniche (hip 193) sold for $250,000 to Legacy Ranch to top the sale. Barton Thoroughbreds, agent, consigned the daughter of the Eclipse Champion 2YO Male. Out of the winning North Light (IRE) mare Carmelita, the chestnut filly is a half-sister to three winners, including multiple stakes winner Carmelita’s Man (Mucho Macho Man) and multiple stakes placed Buyback (Mucho Macho Man). Hip 193 was bred in California by Richard Barton Enterprises.
A colt by Maxfield (hip 20) sold for $225,000 to John Moroney & Thomsen Racing & Steve Knapp from the consignment of Lovacres Ranch, agent. The bay colt is out of the Grade 2 winning Bring the Heat mare Lost Bus, already the dam of three winners from as many to race, including stakes winner Bus Buzz (Stay Thirsty). Hip 20 was bred in California by Terry C. Lovingier.
The same buyer went to $225,000 for a Good Magic colt (hip 61), also consigned by Lovacres Ranch, agent, and bred in California by Terry C. Lovingier. The chestnut colt is out of Noble and a Beauty, a stakes winning daughter of Noble Causeway, dam of multiple winner Bestfriend Rocket (Curlin).
All told, 137 yearlings sold for $4,552,400 compared to last year when 163 sold for $4,781,400. The average rose 13% to $33,229 from $29,334 in 2024. Eleven (11) yearlings sold for $100,000 or more, up from 8 sold at or above that price point last year. The median remained steady at $15,000.
