West, Repole to $300,000 Early for Tonalist Colt

Hip 302, a colt from the first crop of Belmont S. (G1) winner Tonalist, sold for $300,000 early on the final day of the Midlantic Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale. The chestnut colt was purchased by West Bloodstock, agent for Repole Stables from the consignment of Tom McCrocklin, agent after breezing an quarter in 22.0 (video).

This colt is from the first crop of four-time Grade 1 winner Tonalist, a graduate of the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale who captured the Belmont S. (G1), Jockey Club Gold Cup S. (G1) twice, and Cigar Mile H. (G1) on his way to earnings of more than $3.6 million.

Hip 302 is a half-brother to two winners from as many to race out of the winning Cat Thief mare Miss Pauline, a half-sister to another Belmont S. (G1) winner in Union Rags. Miss Pauline is also a half-sister to Tempo West, who has produced seven winners to date, including: multiple Group 1 winner and sire Declaration of War; multiple graded stakes winner War Correspondent; and French stakes winner Vertiformer, who is also Grade 2 placed in North America.

This Maryland-bred colt was a $65,000 Fasig-Tipton November Sale selected weanling in 2017, when he was purchased by M.E. II Racing from the consignment of Bluegrass Thoroughbred Services.
