Mike Watchmaker Analysis
Earned his first career victory with a decisive score in the Grade 1 Norfolk Stakes at Santa Anita as a 2-year-old in 2010, an effort that came on the heels of a rallying second in the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity in his second career start. He was a leading prospect for the 2011 Kentucky Derby, especially after a rallying second in the Grade 2 San Felipe Stakes in his first start at 3. He didn’t make it to the Triple Crown, but he had an active campaign in 2012, winning an overnight race on Del Mar’s Polytrack, and another overnight race on Betfair Hollywood Park’s Cushion track, in which he soundly defeated multiple graded stakes winner Tres Borrachos. He also finished second in the Grade 2 Strub Stakes, and a close third in the Big Bear Handicap on the dirt at Santa Anita. The now 5-year-old horse by Victory Gallop continues to race and train steadily, and has, in fact, made seven starts over the last eight months.
