Fasig-Tipton 5k back again to benefit New York Racing Association Backstretch Charities

Registration for the Fasig-Tipton 5k race (3.1 miles) and the one-mile 'fun run,' in Saratoga Springs, NY is now live online at www.fasigtipton.com. The race will start in front of the newly renovated Fasig-Tipton Pavilion on Saturday, August 7th. All proceeds will be divided equally among the New York Racing Association's four charities: The Anna House, Backstretch Employee Service Team, New York Racetrack Chaplaincy and The Backstretch Education Fund. Registration for both events is scheduled to begin at 6:30 a.m.; the one-mile 'fun run' will kick off at 7:30 a.m. and the 5k race will start at 8:00 a.m. The 5k route will loop around Union Ave to Henning, giving runners the opportunity to see the newly renovated sales grounds, enjoy a view of the Saratoga Racetrack Grandstand, and see parts of the Oklahoma Training Track and the barn area. There will be refreshments and musical entertainment, as well as awards presentations to the top runners in each age group, immediately following the race.

"Last year's event was so good; we decided to do this again. We had a great turnout and perfect weather," says race director Anna Seitz of Fasig-Tipton. Anna notes, "The people of Saratoga loved being able to see the changes that Fasig-Tipton has been working on and we are getting to know many locals who live/summer in Saratoga and who are looking forward to participating in the race again this year. Saratoga has a great community and a lot of local sponsors teamed up with us to put on this race. It was a win/win for everyone last year and best of all we were able to raise about $10,000 for the charities." Stuart Chenkin, manager of Anna House, a day-care provider for small children whose parents tend racehorses, applauded the benefit race: "Thanks to the money raised by the Fasig-Tipton 5K run in 2009, our preschoolers were able to experience a trip to The American Museum of Natural History, the Central Park Zoo, the Coney Island Aquarium and The SOHO Children's Theater. This is a fantastic opportunity these children do not normally get to experience."
